2008 Kia Sorento Front Bumper Cover
  • 2008
  • Kia
  • Sorento
This Kia Sorento bumper cover doesn't look too bad when you first look at it, but upon closer inspection, you will see that there is a large crack that goes though a body line. These are difficult to repair, because the body line must be recreated by carefully sculpting the plastic and the filler to match the surrounding body line. Not only that, but the flange was almost torn off completely. The cracks were welded, front and back, with a Nitro Fuzer nitrogen plastic welder from Polyvance. The refinish materials and primer also come from Polyvance. In the end, the bumper cover looks great.
2005 Chevrolet SSR Rear Bumper Cover

This bumper cover should have gone in the trash. It was really bad. The problem is that the bumper cover is discontinued. Before they were discontinued, the price on it was over $1,000!!!! Desperate to have it refurbished, this customer turned to Encore Bumpers. Using the Nitro Fuzer nitrogen plastic welder from Polyvance, the cracks and tears were welded. A heat gun softened the big dent so that it could be pushed out. The fillers and primer came from Polyvance, too. In the end, the bumper looked flawless and the customer was happy.
2004 Chevrolet SSR Rear Bumper Cover

This Chevrolet SSR was sitting at the Chevrolet dealership. A customer who was leaving the dealership backed into the rare 2004 Chevrolet SSR. The bumper cover is discontinued and no longer available. When the bumper cover WAS available, it cost over $1,000! The dealership was unable to find a salvage or used bumper cover either. Fortunately for them, we were close by, so they called the experts at Encore Bumpers to save them.We inspected the bumper cover and discovered that it had been previously hit and poorly repaired. It had filler on it in areas as thick as 1/4 inch. This made the work tougher because we had to remove all of the old filler. Not only that, but the flange at the top had broken away from the bumper. We heated the bumper to soften the plastic. While it was soft, we pushed out the dent and carefully massaged the dents so well that almost no filler was required! The flange was welded back into place using a Nitro Fuzer nitrogen plastic welder from Polyvance. The finished bumper looked great and the customer was ecstatic. If you restoring an older car with plastic bumpers, fill out our online form, upload some pictures, and we will let you know if yours can be restored.
2007-2010 Pontiac Solstice GXP with Dual Exhaust

For some reason that we don't know, this customer's Pontiac Solstice bumper cover came into contact with the tail pipe. You might think to yourself, "I'll just buy a new lower bumper cover and replace it. How much could that cost?" Believe it or not, a brand-new, lower bumper cover for a 2007-2010 Pontiac Solstice is $571.40!!! Needless to say, the customer balked at the price. He decided to let the experts at Encore Bumper knock out the repair in just a few hours. Here is what we had to do:We added new material (the same material from which the bumper is made) to the backside and the front. We sanded it smooth and got the contour to match the original. We filled in the sand scratches with a flexible filler from Polyvance. Finally, we retextured the area with a spray-on texture material from Polyvance.Needless to say, the customer was happy with the expert work done by Encore Bumpers.
Z71 Flareside Repair
  • 2002
  • GMC
  • Sierra 1500
We get this kind of stuff a lot. People try to piece parts back together with rivets or (more common) zip ties. The urethane panels on the Chevrolet and GMC Flareside (Stepside?) panels get cracked ALL of the time. Sure, you could get some aftermarket Chevrolet or GMC Z71 stepside replacement panels for around $450 to $500, but you know how well aftermarket parts fit, right? Even an OEM truck bed side panel will set you back around $700 or $800.This customer brought his bedside panel in because he wanted the OEM fit without the OEM price. So, he brought it to the experts at Encore Bumpers. Granted, it is not a bumper cover, but when "plastic" bumper covers first came out in the 70's they were ALL urethane. In fact, many late model bumper covers are still made from urethane. Since we have been restoring urethane bumper covers for years and years, we knew the techniques and which materials to use to restore this broken "flareside" panel. Here is what we had to do:The rivets were drilled out and removed. The individual pieces were bonded together (temporarily) with an instant glue. The cracks were ground out to accept the urethane welding rod.The repair area was rough sanded so that the flexible filler that we get from Polyvance would bond well. The filler was sanded smooth and it was primed with a eco-friendly, waterborne primer surfacer from Polyvance. The customer took the part to the body shop to have it painted (we don't do that) and the results looked great. Another happy customer for Encore Bumpers.
